Stephen Dowker

Stephen Dowker is an emergency medical technician in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Neuroscience in 2017.  From August 31, 2017 to January 25, 2018 he traveled through South America and Africa as a University of  Michigan Bonderman Fellow.

He had originally planned an eight-month journey ending in May of 2018; however due to the unexpected illness of a family member he had to return home early. During that time he worked as an Uber driver and then emergency services technician at a level 1 trauma center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Now, Stephen will complete his eight month journey. He departs for Hanoi, Vietnam on December 28th, 2018 to travel South East Asia for four months.

Stephen grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and attended Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School. During his time there he developed a strong interest in medicine that persisted throughout his time at the University of Michigan. Stephen hopes to become a physician specializing in emergency, disaster and austere medicine.

In addition to his academic interests, Stephen loves the outdoors. His favorite activities include, sailing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and mountain biking. He hopes to have many opportunities to explore these interests more throughout the course of his fellowship.
